James C. Metzger

James C. Metzger (Hofstra ’83) has contributed to the launching of this project through his continued generosity in supporting the Center for Civic Engagment.  Initially, he endowed a “Metzger-D’Innocenzo Civic Engagement Internship,” and in recent years Metzger has provided matching funds to support a second intern.

Mr. Metzger is noted for his philanthropic generosity to Hofstra and many other Long Island organizations.  In 1989, he founded his own company, The Whitmore Group, Ltd., which is one of the largest independent insurance agencies and estate planning companies in the New York metropolitant area.  Jim has been cited as one of the most civic and community minded businessmen on Long Island.  As a Hofstra undergraduate, he was Division I lacrosse All-American. His early and enduring relationship with his history professor, Michael D’Innocenzo, has spurred Jim to be a continuing booster of Hofstra’s civic engagement programs.  In 2012, Jim received the Hofstra Alumni Achievement Award.
